Our History
In 1838, a Methodist Society began holding meetings in a schoolhouse located on a nearby farm owned by Jane Warrington. Trustees were elected and incorporated “to build White's Chapel”, named for Reverend Henry White, a presiding elder who served in the preaching circuit until 1842.
The first meeting house (measuring 13x14 feet) was built in 1839 on a quarter-acre of land donated by Samuel Paynter. The structure was destroyed by fire circa 1871. Adjacent land was purchased from Albert C. Warrington in 1872 and a new church (measuring 30x40 feet) was constructed within the present-day cemetery.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck once again, and the second church structure was destroyed by fire circa 1920.
Our present church building was constructed a year later and was dedicated by then District Superintendent, W.R. Mowbray. White's Chapel, Conley's Chapel and Zion Methodist Church comprised the Nassau Circuit, which operated until the 1930's.
White's Chapel has served the spiritual needs of the Milton area and surrounding towns, and through outreach to our communities continues to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ.
Since 1838, we have continued to make disciples of Jesus Christ, and it is in the member's vision, that through God's will and our prayers, it will continue for many more years to come!
Come! Be a part of our vision!
The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
